Radiation Physicist

We are seeking a highly skilled Radiation Physicist to join our team at Inova Health System. As a Radiation Physicist, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and effective use of ionizing radiation in our medical facilities.
Key Responsibilities:- Collaborate with physicians to ensure accurate and safe use of radiation in patient treatments.
- Conduct investigations and fact-finding to identify areas for improvement in radiation safety.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with department directors and Medical Directors.
- Provide Medical Physics coverage as needed to support radiation therapy, cardiac catheterization, and other medical specialties.
- Work with Engineering to design radiation shields for areas of the hospital that utilize ionizing radiation.
- Oversee the acceptance testing of new or renovated medical equipment and imaging networks.
- Perform calculations and measurements to develop new treatment and imaging techniques.
- Review and verify calibration protocols to ensure their impact on clinical applications.
- Investigate and evaluate new equipment and improvements to existing equipment to reduce costs and downtime while increasing efficiency and accuracy.
- Stay up-to-date with clinical and dosimetry literature in the field of radiation therapy.
- Develop and maintain contacts with physicists in other practices.
- Confers with physicians throughout Inova Health System regarding patient dosages, equipment evaluation, and quality assurance.
- Cooperates with state and federal regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with applicable rules and recommendations.
- Confers with vendors of equipment used in practice regarding purchase specifications, acceptance testing, quality assurance, and routine maintenance.
- Maintains dosimetry in accordance with applicable rules and regulations.
- Discusses radiation exposure with patients and other members of the public.
- Delivers physics lectures to Inova personnel on radiation matters.
- A master's degree in Physics or a related field is required; a doctoral degree is preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Clinical Medical Physics.
- The American Board of Radiology (ABR) certification is required.
- Virginia Inspector certification within the first two months of hire.
- Availability to work outside of normal business hours is required.
- Knowledge of scripting is preferred.
- Experience with Raystation treatment planning system is preferred.
- Prior experience with proton therapy is preferred.
- Strong communication skills are required.
