Job Summary:

The Nutritional Services Assistant plays a vital role in the preparation and delivery of high-quality, nutritious meals for patients and cafeteria patrons. Responsibilities include assembling meal trays, stocking supplies, assisting patients with menu selections, delivering trays to patient rooms, and maintaining cleanliness of kitchenware. Compliance with all food safety regulations is essential. This position primarily operates within the kitchen environment, with tasks extending to pantry stocking and tray delivery across the facility.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Perform daily sanitation and cleaning tasks as assigned.
  • Ensure proper hair covering while in kitchen areas.
  • Maintain a professional appearance by avoiding jewelry, nail polish, and excessive makeup during work hours.
  • Conduct thorough weekly and monthly sanitation duties as required.
  • Wear appropriate attire in work areas and manage dirty aprons appropriately.
  • Practice hand hygiene as outlined in the Infection Control Policy.
  • Utilize approved cleaning solutions for sanitization in accordance with departmental guidelines.
  • Monitor and record food temperatures during preparation, storage, and service.
  • Assess the quality, temperature, and presentation of food, reporting any issues to a supervisor.
  • Label and date all prepared food items stored in refrigeration.
As Dishroom Staff
  • Wash dishes, cafeteria trays, and cooking utensils using proper cleaning and sanitizing methods.
  • Store clean dishes, trays, and utensils appropriately once dried.
  • Restock pantries according to inventory sheets, ensuring rotation and checking expiration dates.
  • Dispose of cafeteria waste and replace trash bags as needed.
  • Accurately record dish machine temperatures at the beginning and end of shifts.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the dishroom, including removing stray dishes from machines.
  • Thoroughly clean and mop the dishroom area using suitable cleaning agents.
  • Complete assigned daily cleaning tasks.
  • Assist in serving food or operating cash registers as necessary, providing friendly service.
  • Keep cafeteria trays and waste organized and restocked.
  • Manage food carts for delivery and collection efficiently.
  • Clear and clean catering carts post-service.
  • Support stock organization during delivery days.
  • Collaborate with team members as needed.
  • Check inventory management systems as required.
  • Assist nursing staff with meal tray distribution.
As Second Shift Staff
  • Prepare daily menus and diet orders for patient meals.
  • Assemble cold food trays for lunch and dinner accurately.
  • Utilize garnishes and proper presentation techniques for meal service.
  • Prepare snacks for patients as needed.
  • Answer phone calls with the appropriate greeting and manage tray deliveries promptly.
  • Record and monitor food temperatures accurately.
  • Conduct accurate tray counts before each meal service.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the kitchen and manage waste disposal.
  • Refill steam tables and clean as necessary after meal service.
  • Coordinate with dishroom staff to ensure efficient cleaning and storage of kitchenware.
  • Assist with stock organization during delivery days.
  • Prepare patient trays according to dietary requirements.
  • Restock milk, butter, and condiments on the tray line.
  • Prepare beverages and ice for patient meals.
  • Ensure accurate setup and delivery of catering services.
  • Support team members as needed.
  • Check inventory management systems as required.
  • Assist nursing staff with meal tray distribution.
As Aide
  • Set up breakfast items such as pastries and fruit.
  • Operate cash registers with a positive demeanor.
  • Maintain accurate cash records and submit receipts.
  • Manage cleanliness and restocking of food service areas.
  • Prepare and deliver meals for medical staff as required.
  • Ensure cleanliness of dining areas and equipment.
  • Assist with stock management during deliveries.
  • Support team members as needed.
  • Check inventory management systems as required.
  • Serve breakfast items in the cafeteria.
As Patient Care Staff
  • Accurately document patient dietary needs and preferences.
  • Review menu options with patients and record their choices.
  • Provide dietary education and notify dietitians of additional needs.
  • Monitor compliance with dietary restrictions and preferences.
  • Assist nursing staff with meal tray distribution.
  • Prepare and deliver snacks and beverages to patients and staff.
  • Participate in team meetings and maintain communication with food service and nursing staff.
  • Manage meal delivery for patients and their families.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of food service areas.
  • Support inventory management and ordering processes.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability to read and interpret patient counts.
  • Strong customer service skills, with the ability to engage with guests and serve food.
  • Familiarity with kitchen equipment, including dishwashers and food processors.
Education and Experience:
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
  • No prior work experience required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Frequent walking, standing, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, and use of hands.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs frequently; occasionally up to 50 lbs.
