Job Summary:

The Nutritional Services Assistant plays a vital role in the preparation and delivery of wholesome, nutritious meals for patients and cafeteria patrons. Responsibilities include assembling meal trays, stocking supplies, assisting patients with menu selections, delivering trays to patient rooms, and maintaining cleanliness of kitchenware. Adherence to all food safety regulations is essential.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Perform daily sanitation and cleaning tasks as assigned.
  • Ensure proper hair covering in kitchen areas.
  • Maintain a professional appearance by avoiding jewelry, nail polish, and excessive makeup while on duty.
  • Conduct thorough weekly and monthly sanitation tasks as required.
  • Wear an apron in designated work areas and change out of soiled aprons before entering public spaces.
  • Practice hand hygiene according to Infection Control Policy guidelines.
  • Utilize approved cleaning solutions for sanitization in accordance with departmental protocols.
  • Monitor and record food temperatures during preparation, storage, and service.
  • Assess the quality, temperature, and presentation of food served, reporting any discrepancies to a supervisor.
  • Label and date all prepared food items stored in refrigeration.
As Dishroom Staff
  • Utilize proper cleaning and sanitizing methods for washing dishes, cafeteria trays, and cooking utensils.
  • Ensure clean dishes and utensils are stored appropriately after drying.
  • Restock pantries according to established par levels, rotating inventory and checking expiration dates.
  • Dispose of cafeteria waste and replace trash bags as needed.
  • Accurately document dish machine temperatures at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Thoroughly clean the dishroom, including removing any stuck dishes from machines.
  • Mop and sanitize the dishroom area using appropriate cleaning agents.
  • Complete assigned daily cleaning tasks.
  • Assist in serving food or handling cash transactions when necessary, maintaining a friendly demeanor.
  • Keep cafeteria trays and waste areas tidy and restock trays as needed.
  • Transport food carts to and from the kitchen as required.
  • Clear and clean carts used for catering services, ensuring all items are returned and cleaned properly.
  • Support team members with various tasks as needed.
  • Monitor inventory and assist with deliveries.
  • Assist nursing staff in delivering meal trays to patients.
As Second Shift Staff
  • Prepare daily menus based on diet orders and ensure accurate tray preparation.
  • Utilize garnishes and presentation techniques for meal trays.
  • Prepare snacks and beverages for patients.
  • Respond to phone inquiries and deliver trays promptly.
  • Record and monitor food temperatures accurately.
  • Conduct tray counts before each meal service.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the kitchen and tray areas.
  • Collaborate with dishroom staff to manage dishes and utensils efficiently.
  • Restock supplies in the tray room after each meal.
  • Assist with catering setup and delivery as needed.
  • Provide support to nursing staff in tray delivery.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability to read and follow patient counts.
  • Strong customer service skills, capable of interacting positively with guests.
  • Familiarity with kitchen equipment, including dishwashers and food processors.
Education and Experience:
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
  • No prior work experience required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Frequent walking, standing, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, and use of hands.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs regularly; occasionally up to 50 lbs.
