Job Summary:

As a vital member of the healthcare team, the Dietitian collaborates to deliver comprehensive medical nutrition therapy. This role involves identifying patients at high nutritional risk based on established criteria. The Dietitian assesses individual nutrition needs and determines specific nutrient requirements tailored to the patient's age and health conditions. A personalized nutrition care plan is developed and implemented for each assigned patient, ensuring continuity of care throughout all phases of treatment. The effectiveness and outcomes of the nutrition interventions are continuously evaluated and monitored.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Utilize two patient identifiers prior to administering treatments.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of patient rights.
  • Conduct nutritional assessments for patients across various departments including Med/Surg, Home Care, and Oncology.
  • Design and execute individualized nutritional care plans for all assessed patients.
  • Adjust nutrition interventions based on ongoing patient evaluations.
  • Provide tailored nutrition education to patients and their families.
  • Facilitate referrals to support groups, outpatient counseling, and educational classes as necessary.
  • Document nutritional care and patient progress during interdisciplinary rounds.
  • Maintain communication with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals regarding patient care.
  • Ensure timely contact and scheduling of outpatients following physician referrals.
  • Develop nutrition care plans post thorough assessments.
  • Educate patients and families considering cultural factors and readiness to change.
  • Coordinate with fellow dietitians for comprehensive care.
  • Compile community benefit reports promptly after presentations.
  • Oversee community nutrition education initiatives in collaboration with other hospital departments.
  • Update and order nutrition education materials as needed.
  • Provide class schedules for marketing purposes in a timely manner.
  • Conduct in-service training for team members and other departments upon request.
  • Participate actively in departmental and interdisciplinary meetings.
  • Submit monthly and weekly reports to management punctually.
  • Maintain a Professional Development Portfolio in accordance with Commission on Dietetic Registration guidelines.
  • Enhance professional skills through workshops, training, and continuing education.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Exceptional customer service skills and ability to work collaboratively.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Competence in presenting information to large groups.
  • Proficiency in operating standard office equipment.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Dietetics.
  • Completion of an accredited internship or distance learning program.
  • Certification as a Dietitian by the relevant state board or licensing body.
  • No prior work experience in Dietetics is required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Frequent walking, talking, sitting, and standing; occasional pushing, pulling, climbing, stooping, reaching, and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs as needed.
