Job Description

Microsoft Corporation is seeking a highly skilled Principal Manufacturing Test Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Hardware, Infrastructure Management, and Fundamentals Engineering (HIFE) team, you will play a critical role in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale, and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead the development of test hardware and software/firmware to support the verification of product functionality.
  • Responsible for the end-to-end development and delivery of thermal and/or mechanical test solutions for the GPU, CPU, and associated platforms/Racks.
  • Lead, develop, and design manufacturing test in new liquid cooling products.
  • Collaborate across the disciplines of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, process engineering, as well as production and offering teams.
  • Analyze and optimize thermal solutions for densely packaged consumer electronic products.
  • Develop and validate test strategy, product design, and methodologies.
  • Develop and maintain core product-test content and requirements, monitoring of weekly production yield data for test and product issues, test development to catch manufacturing defects, and ensures reusability of existing tests.
  • Leverage resources and exerts influence to achieve high-level manufacturing test engineering product goals.
  • Drive improvement of effectiveness and efficiency by leveraging information gathered from process/test-system to identify and remove non-value elements from products.
  • Define key performance indicators (KPIs), determines how to evaluate metrics, and translates decisions into business value (e.g., return on investment [ROI]).
  • Oversee implementation of set target/test cases, rationalizes cost of targets, and maps targets to customer impact.
  • Works across teams to ensure that verification process is stable enough that there is enough time in the schedule to fully complete verification.
  • Ensures that each program/product has documentation specifying what needs to be tested and covered at all product stages.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering (Hardware) or related field AND 8+ years enterprise computer, consumer electronics design or hyperscale supply chain systems experience.
  • OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering (Hardware) or related field, AND 4+ years of enterprise computer, consumer electronics design or hyperscale supply chain systems experience.
  • OR Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering (Hardware) or related field AND 3+ years of enterprise computer, consumer electronics design or hyperscale supply chain systems experience.
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years' experience in diagnostic tool or utility development with electronic devices and functional test technical manufacturing facilities or at contract manufacturing site with high-volume production as a Manufacturing Test Engineer.
  • Led development projects from incubation to actualization, ideally specializing in advanced thermal technologies and work experience with CPU or GPU test tool development, direct experience in incorporating them into manufacturing test flows.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or above degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (BSME), Computer Science, or related fields.
  • 8+ years of work experience in enterprise computers or hyperscale supply chain systems. Experience with server products is a plus.
  • 3+ years of experience with data center cooling infrastructure and/or compute system cooling solution.
  • Experience on Linux operating system. Able to read/write script or issue commands upon Linux. Capable of troubleshooting with engineering team on manufacturing related issues with test systems and storage enclosure products.
  • Ability to take on difficult challenges and communicate effectively and professionally across a range of technical disciplines.
  • Able to travel, domestic & international and to work off hours to support business.
  • Knowledge of rack level test framework and methodologies.
  • 3+ years' Python scripting programming experience is preferred.
  • Understanding of the design and manufacturing process at the PCBA and enclosure level is a plus.
  • Knowledgeable about SW test development and proficiency on any kinds of source code control tool is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of computer subsystems, component interfaces, add-on boards, electronic test equipment.
  • Experience with all MS Office applications. Familiar with Azure DevOps Services, Business Intelligence tools, or Power Automate tools is a plus.
