Job Summary

Austin Energy is seeking a highly skilled Accountant III to join our team. As a key member of our accounting department, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records, preparing complex financial statements, and ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain accounting ledgers by posting, reviewing, and approving general ledger account transactions.
  • Provide coordination and oversight for the collection of revenue and processing of customer payments.
  • Prepare complex financial statements for external reporting or financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing general ledger account information and trends.
  • Research current and new accounting standards and related reporting requirements to ensure accurate and timely implementation.
  • Lead reconciliation of general ledger and/or bank accounts and resolve account discrepancies.
Requirements
  • Graduation with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a field related to accounting, 24 college semester hours in accounting, and 3 years of accounting experience.
  • Valid Texas Licensed CPA (or ability to obtain one within 1 year of hire).
  • Experience preparing journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Experience applying GAAP principles for the preparation of GAAP-based financial statements.
  • Experience preparing audit work papers for external auditors.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge of financial reporting concepts and preferred business practices.
  • Knowledge of manual and automated financial systems.
  • Ability to prepare accurate and complex financial reports and statements.
  • Ability to analyze, recommend, and implement internal control systems.
