Position Overview

The Elementary Teacher is an integral part of the student support team. This role supports classroom teachers to provide specialized instruction to students who are not meeting academic or behavioral benchmarks, and works with all teachers, the special education team, the admin team, and families to attend to the social and academic needs of students who have been identified as at-risk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and Interpret Data
    • Analyze and interpret all school data to provide recommendations for academic and behavioral interventions
    • Accurately use Arc reports, student one-pagers, and other data tracking systems
    • Continuously monitor assessment data by grade level as new assessments are inputted
    • Create systems to loop back to review data to inform decision making
  • Manage Academic and Behavior Meetings
    • Organize all intervention meetings
    • Track interventions via whole school tracking system
    • Offer advice on interventions and model interventions for teachers
    • Create materials and resources for intervention
  • Manage Student Progress
    • Create system for weekly/monthly follow up
    • Create system for progress monitoring
    • Track student progress through consistent data entry and evaluation
  • Collaborate with Educational Professionals
    • Participate in co-observations with coaches and admin with a focus on potential student interventions
    • Maintain strong professional relationships with all stakeholders
    • Work closely with Campus Director and Compliance Manager to track Tier 2, 3, and special education students
  • Communicate with Students, Colleagues, and Parents
    • Provide resources for parents and write all communication that is sent home (ie: start of intervention letter, progress reports, etc)
    • Attend parent teacher conferences for kids who are receiving intervention
    • Attend special education meetings: MDT/SEP/Eligibility meetings/IEP meetings
  • Maintain Accurate Records
    • Intervention groups led by self
    • Intervention groups led by others
    • Assess student progress and determines the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques
  • Manage and Mentor Literacy Lab Tutor
    • Support with data tracking and identifying student groups
    • Attend all meetings with Literacy Lab coaches
    • Observe and provide feedback to tutor
    • Meet weekly with tutor
  • Actively Participate in Meetings
    • Actively participate in O3s and all meetings (Content Team, Staff, Academic and Behavior Intervention meetings, special education and PD) as a Teacher Leader

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (Required)
  • Commitment to working with students from communities with limited access to quality educational opportunities (Required)
  • At least one year of teaching experience in a public school or education degree with student teaching experience (Strongly Preferred)
  • Bachelor's degree in content area (Preferred)
  • Experience/strength in content area (Preferred)

Compensation and Benefits

  • When it comes to compensation, at KIPP DC we strive for clarity, equity, and to be highly competitive. We look at compensation benchmarks in schools across DC. Interventionist salaries are exempt and are included in our Teacher salary scales. This position starts at $65,500 and increases with years of experience. Please see the salary scale here. Interventionists can earn up to $5,000 in renewal add-ons to their base salary each year they return to KIPP DC.
  • KIPP DC offers a robust benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurances; various voluntary benefits; and employer paid benefits such as short term disability, long term disability, life insurance, and a membership to One Medical.
  • KIPP DC also offers a 403(b) retirement account with a 3% employer contribution and a 3% match with vesting after three years.
  • Currently, individuals in this role have up to 10 paid sick days, 12 paid holidays, paid Thanksgiving week break, winter break, spring break, and summer break. This is subject to change and your exact schedule will be shared in your offer letter.
  • All employees who use public transit through WMATA are eligible for pre-tax deductions for transportation costs.
  • Teachers are provided with a laptop computer for work and access to a discounted cell phone plan for staff/student/parent calls.
