Job Description

Job Title: Elementary Education Professional

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly qualified and dedicated Elementary Education Professional to join our team at the Archdiocese of Washington. As a Catholic school teacher, you will be responsible for delivering instruction that aligns with the approved curricula and mission of the school, creating a safe and supportive learning environment for students, and fostering a sense of community and Catholic values.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Instructional Planning: Create lesson plans that align with the Archdiocese of Washington Academic and Religious Standards, utilizing standardized test scores and other forms of assessment to inform instruction.
  • Classroom Management: Establish classroom procedures that optimize instructional time, create and enforce clear rules, and maintain a positive learning environment based on mutual respect and cooperation.
  • Communication: Maintain a grade book that reflects students' progress, monitor grades, and communicate with parents and administration through regular updates and progress reports.
  • Catholic Identity: Actively foster and support Catholic beliefs, traditions, and practices, and reflect the Catholic Church's teaching on social justice and witness service to others.
  • Non-Instructional Duties: Perform duties such as carpool, recess, lunch, and classroom teacher substitution, sponsor clubs and other school activities, and participate in faculty and professional development meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Current teacher certification in Maryland, Virginia, or Washington, DC (candidates have 3 years from hire to earn their certification)
  • Knowledge of child development and supervision
  • Experience teaching in an elementary school setting (preferred)
