Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Sterile Compounding Technician to join our team at CommonSpirit Health. As a Compounding Pharmacy Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and accurate preparation of medications for our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Under the direct supervision of a registered Pharmacist, measure and compound medication, maintain patient records, and perform duties deemed acceptable by the State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Maintain Pharmacy Technician Certification and obtain a state-approved certification to practice in the state within 12 months of hire date.
  • Assist with the orientation and training of pharmacy personnel.
  • Work with insurance providers and medical providers to bill and follow up on necessary tasks.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and program or double-check IV pump settings for accuracy prior to delivery.
  • Complete yearly ACHC assessments of compounding standards successfully.
  • Prepare prescriptions for filling, check compounding records, gather necessary pharmaceuticals, stage prescriptions and products for the pharmacist to check, and compound prescriptions under direct supervision.
  • Clean and calibrate compounding equipment per manufacturer's guidelines and policy and procedures.
  • Demonstrate ability to perform sterile compounding per strict USP 797 guidelines and maintain up-to-date knowledge of USP 797 guidelines.
  • Communicate with patients about supply and deliveries of medications.
  • Coordinate continuation or discontinuation of services, process refill prescriptions, and document in patients' records.
  • Utilize administrative and clinical knowledge to assist Pharmacists in providing medication and other healthcare products to patients.
  • Prepare I.V. medications and supplies for clients and maintain a clean and organized pharmacy.
  • Execute all processes in the production of compounded sterile preparations while strictly adhering to USP 797 regulations and departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • State pharmacy technician licensure in the state employed.
  • Obtain national certification within 12 months of employment.
  • Compounding pharmacy technician experience, preferably with six months of sterile IV compounding experience.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent math skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, flexibility, and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Self-directed with excellent time management skills and ability to work independently.
  • Working knowledge of medical technology.
  • Availability for full-time, regular daytime hours and ability to work on-call hours.
