We are seeking a highly skilled Development Officer to join our team at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a portfolio of high-end annual fund donors with major gift potential, and will provide strategic oversight and implementation of the Whitehead Alumni Network.
Key Responsibilities- Work with the Director of Advancement to facilitate all aspects of the Annual Fund appeals, including mailings and electronic communications.
- Direct communications and solicitations pertaining to the Annual Fund and the Alumni Fund.
- Manage a portfolio of high-end annual gift donors with major gift potential, and work with the Director of Advancement to create an effective strategy for this portfolio, including moves management plans for key prospects.
- Track and report relationship management activity, including in-person visits, outreach, and solicitations.
- Make direct, in-person solicitations, and work with Whitehead leadership and faculty as needed to coordinate donor stewardship, cultivation, and solicitation.
- Assist with the execution of all IA events, including annual multi-day events, large receptions, and small donor gatherings and dinners, remotely held and in person.
- Participate in regular Advancement and organization-wide meetings, and develop and maintain strong, collaborative working relationships with team members.
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of successful, demonstrated experience in annual fund and major gifts fundraising, with a priority for those with experience working directly with alumni networks.
- Must be highly organized, self-motivated, flexible, and able to prioritize.
- Must be able to multi-task and work well under pressure and deadlines.
- Must be able to interact comfortably and productively with internal staff, vendors, volunteers, donors, and event attendees.
- Must be able to manage multiple projects and events simultaneously with great attention to detail.
- Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of Raiser's Edge is a plus.
- Ability to travel when required for events in other cities.
