Clinical Staff Pharmacist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Staff Pharmacist to join our team at the University of Texas Medical Branch. As a key member of our pharmacy team, you will be responsible for the distribution and provision of safe, effective, and timely medication therapy to our patients.
Key Responsibilities- Medication Distribution and Therapy: Interpret orders for medications, ensure therapy is appropriate for patient's diagnosis, weight, concomitant medications, drug allergies, and age.
- Compounding and Dispensing: Compound and dispense prescribed medications per orders in all patient care areas in accordance with departmental and applicable laws.
- Adverse Drug Event Detection and Reporting: Detect, prevent, evaluate, and report, when necessary, Adverse Drug Events.
- Medication Review and Recommendations: Utilize professional judgment to review medication interactions, contraindications, and disease state precautions, then make appropriate recommendations to the prescriber to reduce risk and increase quality of medication treatment.
- Patient Counseling and Education: Provide medication counseling to patients to ensure accurate understanding of treatment purpose, duration, special instructions of use, storage, and common adverse effects.
- Drug Information and Education: Provide drug information to members of the healthcare team.
- Vaccine Administration: Recommend and administer vaccines.
- Quality Assurance and Improvement: Participate in quality assurance programs in the Department of Pharmacy.
- Leadership and Training: Supervise the activities of supportive personnel, reinforce policies and procedures, assist in the training and development of departmental staff, and serve as preceptor and/or advisor for pharmacy learners.
- Continuing Education and Professional Development: Participate in pharmaceutical continuing education, in accordance with departmental performance standards.
- Communication and Teamwork: Communicate effectively with other pharmacy employees, healthcare professionals, and patients.
- Regulatory Compliance: Operate within regulations, policies, and procedures to minimize drug diversion and to maintain compliance within pharmacy operations, 340B program, medication quality assurance, security, and disposal of hazardous waste medications.
- Specific Vision Abilities: Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Physical Demands: Regularly required to talk or hear; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms; sit; stoop; kneel; crouch; and stand.
- Lifting and Mobility: Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to function independently, and ability to demonstrate skills in prioritization, problem solving, and time management.
- Work Environment: Standard pharmacy environment, may be required to work weekends and shift rotations, may be required to work after hours and extended shifts during emergencies, may be required to work on-call, and may be required to travel to correctional facilities and other office locations.
