About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Security Engineer to join our Core Security Response team at Datadog. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in maintaining the stability and integrity of our systems and data.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead Security Incident Response: Serve as a technical leader accountable for our security incident response program, leading by example and setting the standard for responding to threats.
  • Strategic Investments: Identify and prioritize strategic investments to improve security incident response, working with engineering management to develop a roadmap and lead the design and implementation of tools, systems, and programs to enhance our IR capabilities.
  • Team Coaching and Mentorship: Coach and mentor team members in day-to-day activities, serving as an ambassador for the team across Datadog to advocate our mission and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure our work delivers continuous business value.
  • Security Threat Investigation and Remediation: Investigate, contain, and remediate security threats to the company, leading under pressure and making decisions in ambiguous situations to drive towards resolution.
  • Automated Alert Triage and Signal Tuning: Triage automated alerts and signals in Datadog Cloud SIEM, working with our Threat Detection team to tune and calibrate these signals to maximize value.
  • Post-Incident Analysis and Training: Conduct post-incident analysis to allow Datadog to learn from its security incidents, ensuring postmortems are blameless and actionable, and create regular training and drills for the incident response team to ensure readiness.
  • Staying Up-to-Date with Security Trends: Stay current with the latest security trends, threats, and technologies to ensure Datadog is prepared to respond to any type of security incident.
Requirements
  • 10+ Years of Security Incident Response Experience: Around 10 years of experience in security incident response positions dealing with cloud environments, especially for incidents involving multiple teams and departments.
  • Leadership and Cross-Team Collaboration: Several years of experience leading cross-team initiatives involving multiple teams, ideally bridging the security engineering and infrastructure domains, with a strong track record of delivering projects with business value.
  • Security Technologies and Cloud Expertise: Strong understanding of security technologies and systems, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and authentication systems, as well as hands-on experience with cloud technologies and distributed systems in the cloud.
  • Post-Incident Analysis and Tool Building: Experience with post-incident analysis and writing postmortems to help the organization learn from incidents, and building and maintaining tools to assist with incident response and other security tasks.
  • Strong Ownership and Communication Skills: Strong ownership and ability to work outside your comfort zones to return Datadog to a stable state when failure does occur, with excellent communication skills to cultivate strong relationships across various teams in the organization.
