Job Summary

We are seeking an Administrative Assistant 1 to provide support to the Educational Opportunity Programs (OEOP) team at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The successful candidate will assist in the implementation of departmental projects, manage day-to-day office functions, and provide administrative support to the director and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative support to the OEOP team, including clerical and receptionist duties, preparing reports and correspondences, and maintaining files and records.
  • Assist in the provision of academic assistance to program participants, including attending meetings and maintaining regular contact with host institutions and community organizations.
  • Perform other tasks as necessary to support the department's missions, including preparing requisitions, requests for payment, and payroll, and operating office equipment and program vehicles.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; at least two years of related experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with ability to deal effectively with program clients, parents, and the public.
  • Experience with office equipment and proficiency with Microsoft Office, FileMaker Pro, and desktop publishing software.
  • Ability to learn new software as needed and demonstrated understanding of and sensitivity to the concerns of low-income, first-generation, disabled, and under-represented students and their families.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
Work Environment

The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced office environment and will be required to travel and work evenings and weekends, including summer on-site work at Wellesley College and other summer program locations.
