Position Title: Staff Pharmacist

Reports To: Director of Pharmacy

Salary Range: $122,278 - $168,438

Position Summary:

The Staff Pharmacist plays a vital role in the provision of safe and effective pharmaceutical services within our organization. Under the general oversight of the Director of Pharmacy, this position is responsible for a variety of professional duties in alignment with the Vermont Board of Pharmacy Rules and Regulations. The Staff Pharmacist will oversee the dispensing of medications, provide drug-related information, manage medication protocols, and ensure adherence to all applicable regulations and standards. This role also requires collaboration with healthcare professionals to enhance patient care and outcomes.

Key Duties:
  • Medication Dispensing & Verification: Accurately dispense prescribed medications, ensuring that correct dosages, forms, and instructions are communicated to patients. Verify prescriptions for potential drug interactions, contraindications, and allergies.
  • Patient Consultation: Offer expert guidance and consultation to patients and healthcare providers regarding medication therapy, including proper administration, potential side effects, and interactions.
  • Medication Therapy Management: Conduct comprehensive medication reviews and therapy management to enhance patient outcomes, adjusting prescriptions in collaboration with physicians as necessary.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to all state and federal regulations, including Vermont Board of Pharmacy Rules and Regulations, while maintaining accurate records and documentation.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee and maintain the pharmacy's inventory, ensuring the availability of medications, proper storage, and compliance with safety standards.
  • Collaborative Care: Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to create and implement patient-specific pharmaceutical care plans.
  • Continuing Education & Training: Remain updated with advancements in the pharmacy field through ongoing education and training, and assist in the education and training of pharmacy staff and students.
  • Quality Assurance: Engage in quality assurance initiatives to enhance pharmacy services, including medication error prevention and adherence to best practices.
  • Technology Utilization: Employ pharmacy management software and other relevant technologies to ensure precise data entry, medication tracking, and reporting.
Qualifications

Education & Credentials:
  • Degree: Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited School of Pharmacy. Advanced degrees or certifications in pharmacy practice or related fields are highly desirable.
  • Licensure: Active Vermont Pharmacy License in good standing.
  • Skills: Proficient in computer usage and data entry with strong oral and written communication abilities. Capable of effectively interacting with patients, healthcare providers, and team members.
Experience:
  • Minimum Requirement: At least one year of professional experience in a pharmacy setting, preferably within a hospital or healthcare institution.
  • Preferred: Experience in an institutional or clinical pharmacy environment, with a solid understanding of regulatory compliance, patient care, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
