Position Overview:

The Staff Pharmacist, operating under the general oversight of the Director of Pharmacy, is essential in guaranteeing the safe and effective provision of pharmaceutical services within our organization. This role encompasses a variety of professional responsibilities in alignment with the Vermont Board of Pharmacy Rules and Regulations. The Staff Pharmacist will be tasked with dispensing medications, delivering drug information, supervising medication management, and ensuring adherence to all pertinent regulations and standards. This position also requires collaboration with healthcare professionals to enhance patient care and outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Medication Dispensing & Verification: Precisely dispense prescribed medications, ensuring accurate dosages, forms, and instructions are provided to patients. Confirm prescriptions for possible drug interactions, contraindications, and allergies.
  • Patient Consultation: Offer expert guidance and consultation to patients and healthcare providers regarding medication therapy, including proper administration, potential side effects, and interactions.
  • Medication Therapy Management: Perform medication reviews and therapy management to optimize patient outcomes, modifying prescriptions in collaboration with physicians as necessary.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Guarantee compliance with all state and federal regulations, including Vermont Board of Pharmacy Rules and Regulations, while maintaining accurate records and documentation.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee and maintain the pharmacy's inventory, ensuring the availability of medications, proper storage, and adherence to safety standards.
  • Collaborative Care: Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient-specific pharmaceutical care plans.
  • Continuing Education & Training: Remain updated with advancements in the field of pharmacy through ongoing education and training, and assist in the education and training of pharmacy staff and students.
  • Quality Assurance: Engage in quality assurance initiatives to enhance pharmacy services, including medication error prevention and adherence to best practices.
  • Technology Utilization: Employ pharmacy management software and other relevant technology to ensure accurate data entry, medication tracking, and reporting.
Requirements

Education & Qualifications:
  • Degree: Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited School of Pharmacy. Advanced degrees or certifications in pharmacy practice or related fields are highly desirable.
  • Licensure: Active Vermont Pharmacy License in good standing.
  • Skills: Proficient in computer use and data entry with strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively interact with patients, healthcare providers, and team members.
Experience:
  • Minimum Requirement: At least one year of professional experience in a pharmacy setting, preferably within a hospital or other healthcare institution.
  • Preferred: Experience in an institutional or clinical pharmacy setting, with a strong understanding of regulatory compliance, patient care, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
