Position Overview

Position Duration
This is a two-year appointment with the potential for extension based on performance and funding availability.

Role Description
The Research Associate will play a crucial role in the development of simulation, modeling, and systematic error mitigation strategies for the Advanced Simons Observatory (ASO). The ASO initiative builds upon existing telescopes and aims to enhance the automation of instrument characterization, data processing, and public data dissemination.

The successful candidate will:
  • Identify and analyze systemic effects that may hinder scientific processing of data.
  • Develop software solutions to simulate these effects and validate them against actual data.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of algorithms aimed at mitigating identified issues.
  • Assist in the automation of simulation and data reduction processes for regular data releases.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
Applicants must hold a PhD or be enrolled in a PhD program at the time of application. Candidates should have no more than three years of post-PhD research experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
We are particularly interested in candidates with:
  • A PhD in physics or astrophysics.
  • Experience in data simulation and analysis, especially with CMB data.
  • Strong programming skills in Python.
  • Familiarity with CMB experiments and systematic error sources.
  • Experience in CMB data reduction techniques and distributed computing resources.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
