Job Description:

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine Care Network, as a Medical Assistant in our Gastroenterology department. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity, requiring you to be based in the greater Chicagoland area. Eligible for a Sign-On Bonus up to $750.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Fulfill patient care responsibilities, including checking schedules, organizing patient flow, and accompanying patients to exam/procedure rooms.
  • Assist patients with walking transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, and preparing for exams.
  • Collect patient history, perform screenings, and assist physicians/nurses with various procedures.
  • Chart patient information, relay instructions, and answer calls.
Clerical Responsibilities:
  • Send/receive patient medical records, obtain lab/X-ray reports, and complete forms/requisitions as needed.
  • Schedule appointments, verify insurance coverage, and collect co-pays.
Environmental Responsibilities:
  • Set up instruments and equipment according to practice protocols.
  • Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
Organizational Responsibilities:
  • Respect/promote patient rights, respond to emergency codes, and share problems with immediate supervisors.
Clinical Medical Assisting Responsibilities:
  • Perform medical/surgical asepsis, sterilization, and instrument wrapping and autoclaving.
  • Check vital signs, prepare patients for exams, and administer medications.
  • Assist with minor surgeries, apply dressings, and remove sutures.
  • Dispose of biohazard waste, monitor therapeutic modalities, and instruct patients on home care.
  • Perform laboratory procedures, including OSHA guidelines, quality control methods, and CLIA-waived testing.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a certified program for Medical Assistants.
  • Current certificate of cardiopulmonary resuscitation training.
  • Phlebotomy training and license, if required by practice.
  • Minimum of one year of recent experience working in a medical office/facility.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Considerable skill in communicating verbally, determining priorities, and organizing work.
  • Ability to maintain an organized filing system and handle stress in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physical ability to perform stocking, lifting, and transporting supplies and instruments.
