Job Description

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine Care Network, as a Medical Assistant in our Gastroenterology department. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity, requiring you to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

Eligible for a Sign-On Bonus up to $750, this Medical Assistant role is an employee who performs a wide variety of patient care services under the direct supervision of a registered nurse, mid-level provider or physician in an office setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Fulfills patient care responsibilities, including checking schedules and organizing patient flow, accompanying patients to exam/procedure rooms, and assisting patients as needed with walking transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, and preparing for exams.
  • Performs clerical responsibilities, such as sending/receiving patient medical records, obtaining lab/X-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, and completing forms/requisitions as needed.
  • Fulfills environmental responsibilities, including setting up instruments and equipment according to practice protocols, cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control, and ordering, sorting, storing supplies.
  • Fulfills clinical medical assisting responsibilities, including medical/surgical asepsis, sterilization, instrument wrapping and autoclaving, checking vital signs or mensuration, physical examination preparations, clinical pharmacology, drug administration through various routes, prescription verifications with physician's orders, minor surgery assists, biohazard waste disposal and monitoring, therapeutic modalities, instructing patients with assistive devices, body mechanics, and home care, laboratory procedures, quality control methods, CLIA-waived testing, capillary punctures and venipunctures, specimen handling, and electrocardiography.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Graduate of a certified program for Medical Assistants
  • Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Phlebotomy training; Phlebotomist license and work experience, if required by practice
  • Minimum of one year of recent experience working in a medical office/facility
  • Experience with practice specialty
  • Able to partner with teams in small to large practice groups
