Job Summary

The Director of Advising/Student Success Center will oversee the operations of a comprehensive student advising center, providing direct support to new, current, and returning students. This leadership role will be responsible for developing, planning, and implementing short- and long-range department goals, as well as ensuring that all advising staff receive appropriate professional development training.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement effective advising case-management services for students.
  • Provide direct supervision and integration of student academic advising, including students on academic warning, probation, or suspension.
  • Lead and support special initiatives designed to recruit new and returning students, including near-completers, stop-out, and other identified student populations.
  • Ensure student engagement tracking for the department and run regular reports related to advising services.
  • Collaborate with other Enrollment Services to ensure quality advising and onboarding services are provided to students.
  • Participate in the Academic Standing process and procedures related to students placed on academic warning, probation, and dismissal.
  • Develop and implement effective advising services provided to students, including the Mayor's Scholars Program (MSP).
  • Participate and lead certain aspects of the New Student Orientation Program.
  • Serve on campus workgroups and committees.
  • Create and maintain learning outcomes and assessment strategies related to advising.
  • Coordinate and implement workshops and professional development for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Oversee the business aspect of the Student Success Center, including budget, schedules, and staff supervision.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in education, counseling, higher education management, student personnel, or a closely related field.
  • Seven (7) years of progressive experience in higher education administration/management in academic advising, retention, or coaching.
  • Demonstrated experience leading student persistence and retention initiatives.
  • Experience designing and implementing an effective student advising/success model.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with faculty, staff, students, and external organizations.
  • Ability to work independently, balance multiple tasks, work to meet deadlines, and prioritize a complex workload.
  • Significant experience utilizing a student information system (Banner, Colleague, PeopleSoft, or similar).
  • Strong technical skills (Microsoft Office 365 Suite).
  • Active membership and participation in related state and national professional associations such as NASPA, TACRAO, or other related professional organizations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in education, counseling, higher education management, student personnel, or a closely related field.
  • Ten (10) years of progressive experience in higher education administration/management in academic advising, retention, or coaching.
  • Professional certification in a related area such as Academic Advising, Appreciative Advising, or other area.
  • Experience working at a community college.
