Job Summary

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Student Success Specialist to join our Student Affairs team. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in supporting the health, wellbeing, and success of our students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct and indirect assistance to students experiencing personal or financial distress, a familial or mental or physical health emergency, or challenges navigating the University.
  • Foster the health, wellbeing, and success of students through non-clinical outreach, triage, and follow-up.
  • Develop and implement individual student success plans, meeting regularly with students to monitor progress and provide support.
  • Collaborate with campus departments, tutoring services, and external organizations to provide a network of academic and student support services and resources.
  • Assist students with interpreting and navigating school and university policies and procedures, including potential leave of absences, withdrawals, incomplete grades, and return to enrollment in the University after a brief or prolonged absence.
  • Monitor and document student reports, scheduling routine and emergency meetings, gathering and documenting relevant information, discussing reports, sharing resources and referral services, and initiating appropriate follow-up.
  • Promote, facilitate, and coordinate trainings and professional development opportunities for behavioral evaluation and threat assessment (BETA) and Student CARE team members.
  • Advocate for data-informed change to policies, systems, procedures, and resources to support students in distress.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, education, social work, counseling, higher education or related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Four years of experience in academic support, student affairs, counseling, or a related field. Demonstrated experience collaborating effectively with diverse students, faculty, and staff within a higher education setting preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving, conflict resolution, crisis response, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate, understand, apply, and adhere to the UMB Core Values of Respect and Integrity, Well-being and Sustainability, Equity and Justice, and Innovation and Discovery.
