Position Overview

OBJECTIVE

The Educational Support Specialist plays a vital role in assisting the implementation of a curriculum tailored to the developmental needs of children in the designated classroom. This position is designed to provide consistent and nurturing care, establishing daily routines and enriching experiences that cater to the unique strengths, interests, and requirements of each child, while ensuring their safety and well-being.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Guide a diverse group of students through engaging daily activities
  • Collaborate with the Early Learning Teacher and other educational staff on various initiatives

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Curriculum Planning and Execution (50%)

  • Curriculum Planning (25%)
    • Comprehend the vision and objectives of the Brooklyn Kindergarten Society
    • Familiarize with the curriculum's goals and objectives
    • Assist in executing lesson plans and units of study
    • Set developmental goals for children
    • Identify support strategies for staff and parents to help children reach these goals
    • Determine necessary classroom materials to facilitate curriculum implementation.
  • Program Execution (25%)
    • Provide constructive guidance to children
    • Support the execution of daily lesson plans
    • Assist teachers in small group and center-based activities
    • Connect individual student goals to academic tasks
    • Work with small groups to reinforce learning, offering one-on-one support and supervision.

Additional Responsibilities (35%)

  • Assessment Duties (15%)
    • Support teachers with assessment tasks, including maintaining observation logs
    • Utilize online assessment systems effectively.
  • Supervision Responsibilities (10%)
    • Ensure consistent supervision that aligns with developmentally appropriate practices and health considerations.
  • Relationship Development (5%)
    • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, including teachers, social workers, and families to promote school readiness.
  • Professional Development (5%)
    • Take ownership of professional growth and self-assessment
    • Engage in staff meetings, training sessions, and workshops as required.

Other Responsibilities (15%)

  • Act as a mandated reporter in accordance with Child Abuse and Neglect Policies.
  • Perform any additional duties as necessary to ensure the smooth operation of the facility.

Reporting Structure

  • Reports to the Center Director

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or CDA in early childhood education; Bachelor's degree preferred
  • At least 2 years of experience working with children aged 2-4 years
  • A minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.5
  • Experience with diverse populations and low-income communities.
