Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

This role is dedicated to the Mental Health Division, focusing on providing educational assistance and support to children of clients. The position involves offering tutoring and homework assistance during the hours of 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, either in the home or within the community setting. The tutor will be responsible for creating engaging homework and activity packages tailored to the needs of the children. Furthermore, the tutor will assist parents during school meetings as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Design, implement, and evaluate an educational program that aligns with the students' needs, interests, and capabilities, fostering self-motivation, independence, self-esteem, and productivity.
  2. Develop a curriculum that incorporates both individual and small group instruction, suitable for varying functional and cognitive abilities.
  3. Teach academic subjects using diverse instructional methods, including phonetics, multisensory approaches, and repetition to enhance learning retention.
  4. Manage and utilize educational software and other resources as part of the instructional process.
  5. Collaborate with teacher aides and other rehabilitation service staff, both on-site and at affiliated facilities, to coordinate educational initiatives.
  6. Organize and lead field trips to enrich educational and vocational experiences, applying practical knowledge in real-world settings.
  7. Monitor, assess, and document the progress of each student, sharing insights with other rehabilitation professionals involved in their care.
  8. Administer and analyze results from ability and achievement assessments.
  9. Provide information and referrals regarding additional educational opportunities and resources.
  10. Perform other related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

DESIRABLE SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

- Understanding of mental health issues and emotional disturbances, including substance abuse disorders.

- Familiarity with treatment, rehabilitation, and community support programs relevant to clients and their families.

- Knowledge of techniques for identifying and managing potentially violent behaviors, including crisis intervention strategies.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

- Ability to engage with clients, families, and colleagues in a compassionate and respectful manner, recognizing cultural differences.

- Serve as a positive role model for clients.

- Proficient in completing documentation accurately and promptly, both manually and digitally.

- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with staff, clients, families, and the community.

- Capability to accompany or transport clients as necessary (some roles may require a valid driver's license).

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE:

An Associate's degree with at least two years of tutoring or teaching experience, or a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of one year of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with applicable experience. Preference will be given to candidates with a background in tutoring or teaching children and adolescents.
