Position Overview

The Brooklyn Kindergarten Society (BKS) has been a cornerstone of early childhood education since its inception in 1891. Role of the Teacher Aide

As a Teacher Aide, you will play a crucial role in supporting both the Group and Assistant Teachers in executing a developmentally appropriate curriculum tailored to the needs of the classroom. This position involves close collaboration with children, fellow staff members, and families to maintain a nurturing and effective learning environment. Your responsibilities will include supervising children, facilitating classroom activities, and assisting in maintaining a safe and healthy space for all.

Key Responsibilities
  • Classroom Engagement: Assist in guiding a diverse group of students through daily educational activities.
  • Family Communication: Maintain open lines of communication with families regarding their children's progress and development.
Planning and Implementation
  • Curriculum Understanding: Familiarize yourself with BKS's goals and objectives, and articulate the learning outcomes of each unit.
  • Material Preparation: Identify and prepare classroom materials necessary for effective curriculum delivery.
Additional Duties
  • Assessment Support: Assist teachers with maintaining observation logs and navigating assessment systems.
  • Supervision: Ensure consistent supervision that aligns with developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Relationship Building: Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, including teachers and families, to promote school readiness.
Professional Development

Take initiative in your professional growth through self-reflection and commitment to performance improvement.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 6 months experience working with children aged 2-4 years.
  • A high school diploma with a minimum GPA of 2.5; an Associate's degree is preferred.
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) credential in early childhood education is preferred.
  • Experience with diverse populations and low-income communities is highly valued.
