POSITION SUMMARY

The Engineering Specialist provides advanced technical knowledge and support for the department, concentrating on both the innovation of new products and the enhancement of existing processes and production methodologies. This role is pivotal in keeping management informed about potential challenges and operational issues through the execution of various responsibilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Formulate and oversee a comprehensive engineering timeline for all initiatives. Direct, coordinate, and mentor team members to ensure the successful attainment of all objectives outlined in the engineering schedule.
  • Draft specifications for equipment and tooling, while managing the design, construction, installation, initiation, and testing of new machinery and tools in alignment with the engineering timeline.
  • Generate all necessary documentation for capital expenditures and secure approval from senior management.
  • Design manufacturing processes that align with all key performance indicators (KPIs) related to capital investment, production costs, waste reduction, product performance, delivery timelines, layout efficiency, cycle times, safety standards, ergonomic considerations, and quality benchmarks.
  • Develop comprehensive documentation for processes, including specifications, process failure mode and effects analysis (PFMEA), risk assessments, process flow diagrams (PFD), work combination tables, design evaluations, trial reports, operational instructions, condition standards, and capacity tracking.
  • Facilitate and champion continuous improvement initiatives following the commencement of production.
  • Actively pursue the development of processes that minimize the transfer of defects to subsequent stages while implementing countermeasures for those that do occur, sharing best practices across similar processes.
  • Engage in problem-solving and investigative activities using root cause analysis methodologies and reporting.
  • Conduct all responsibilities in compliance with OSHA, EPA, and company protocols and best practices.

SUPERVISORY ROLE

This position does not entail supervisory responsibilities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficient in programming and troubleshooting with PLC, HMI, robotics, and electronic control systems.
  • Capability to create intricate PLC programs from the ground up and design/build corresponding control circuits.
  • Comprehensive understanding of networking protocols, including Ethernet, CC-Link, and serial communication.
  • Experience in programming and instructing industrial automation and six-axis robots.
  • Proficient in writing macros and managing IP addressing.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively convey requirements to clients and suppliers.
  • Proven project management and leadership abilities.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to create technical documents and presentations.
  • Competence in interpreting technical drawings, identifying critical characteristics, leading design reviews, and developing PFMEAs.
  • Ability to lead and perform root cause analysis for existing issues and potential future occurrences.
  • Familiarity with Toyota Production System and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Strong work ethic, ownership of projects, and a commitment to maintaining high productivity levels.
  • High aptitude for understanding engineering principles and emerging technologies.
  • Knowledge of TS and ISO standards.
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Experience in a multicultural work environment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.

COMMUNICATION ABILITIES

Ability to read and interpret safety regulations, operational instructions, and procedural manuals. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with effective problem-solving capabilities. Ability to compose routine reports and correspondence and to present information clearly to groups.

TECHNICAL PROFICIENCIES

Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Visio, and Project. Skilled in using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other design software.

MATHEMATICAL COMPETENCIES

Understanding of calculus, trigonometry, and other advanced mathematical concepts for analysis, design, and troubleshooting. Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations and apply mathematical techniques to tasks such as frequency distribution and analysis of variance.

REASONING SKILLS

Ability to identify problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Capable of interpreting a wide range of technical instructions in both mathematical and diagrammatic forms while managing multiple variables.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee may occasionally be exposed to high, precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate, with occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme heat.

POSITION TYPE AND WORK HOURS

This is a full-time role, with a work schedule from Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Overtime and weekend work may be required as job responsibilities dictate.
