POSITION SUMMARY
The Engineering Specialist provides essential technical knowledge to the department, concentrating on both the development of new products and the enhancement of existing processes and production activities. This role ensures that management is kept informed of any challenges or issues that arise by executing the following responsibilities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Formulate and oversee a comprehensive engineering schedule for all projects, guiding and coordinating team efforts to meet the objectives outlined in the master schedule.
- Draft specifications for equipment and tooling, managing the design, construction, installation, commissioning, and testing of new equipment according to the established timeline.
- Generate all necessary documentation for capital investments and secure approval from senior management.
- Design manufacturing processes that align with all key performance indicators (KPIs) related to capital investment, cost efficiency, quality, and safety.
- Produce comprehensive documentation for processes, including specifications, PFMEAs, risk assessments, process plans, and work instructions.
- Facilitate and support continuous improvement initiatives post-production.
- Actively develop processes that minimize defects while implementing countermeasures for those that do occur.
- Conduct problem-solving activities utilizing root cause analysis and detailed reporting.
- Adhere to OSHA, EPA, and company safety protocols and best practices in all tasks.
SUPERVISORY ROLE
This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:
- Advanced programming and troubleshooting skills with PLCs, HMIs, robotics, and electronic control systems.
- Capability to develop complex PLC programs and design corresponding control circuits.
- In-depth knowledge of networking protocols such as Ethernet and serial communication.
- Experience in programming and instructing industrial automation systems and six-axis robots.
- Strong communication skills for effectively conveying requirements to clients and suppliers.
- Proven project management and leadership abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the creation of technical documents and presentations.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and lead design reviews.
- Proficient in conducting root cause analysis for current and potential issues.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and the Toyota Production System.
- A strong work ethic with a commitment to project ownership and productivity.
- High aptitude for grasping engineering concepts and new technologies.
- Knowledge of TS and ISO standards.
- Consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Experience in a multicultural work environment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience, is required.
COMMUNICATION ABILITIES
Candidates must possess the ability to read and interpret safety regulations, operational instructions, and procedural manuals. Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills are essential.
TECHNICAL PROFICIENCIES
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Visio, Project) and experience with AutoCAD or SolidWorks is preferred.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
A solid understanding of calculus, trigonometry, and advanced mathematical concepts is necessary for analysis, design, and troubleshooting.
REASONING ABILITY
The ability to define problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions is crucial.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The physical demands of this role include regular use of hands for handling tools and equipment, frequent standing, and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment may involve exposure to moving mechanical parts and moderate noise levels.
POSITION TYPE AND WORK HOURS
This is a full-time position with a standard work schedule. Overtime may be required based on job demands.
