Director of Development

The University of Southern California (USC) is seeking a highly skilled Director of Development to join its External Relations team at the Marshall School of Business. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of major gift relationships and executing sophisticated fundraising plans to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward alumni, parents, and friends in Southern California and other assigned geographic regions.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage a portfolio of major gift relationships within an assigned geographic region.
- Research, identify, and cultivate potential major gift donors to support the USC Marshall School of Business through endowment and current use gifts.
- Develop and execute sophisticated, donor-centered solicitation strategies for major gift prospects.
- Plan long-range, multi-step engagement strategies to build relationships with donors and secure significant gifts.
- Collaborate with academic leadership, faculty, and other gift officers to cultivate and steward donors.
- Meet or exceed assigned annual and monthly goals, including face-to-face visits, solicitations, successful gift closures, and dollars raised.
- Bachelor's degree or combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education.
- 5 years of experience in major campaign, fundraising, public relations, and/or volunteer management.
- Proven track record of success in major gifts development, with a focus on building relationships and securing significant gifts.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and project management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to collaboration and customer service.
- Masters degree in a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in major gifts development, with a focus on building relationships and securing significant gifts.
- Demonstrated persistency and ability to cultivate and close on major gifts.
- Ability to professionally form and leverage relationships with top prospects, engage key constituents, and secure significant gifts through effective relationship management.
