Job Title: Senior Environmental Scientist Specialist

The Department of Fish and Wildlife is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Environmental Scientist Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Habitat Conservation Cannabis Unit, you will play a critical role in implementing the Lake and Streambed Alteration program (LSA) and reviewing projects under California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and California Endangered Species Act (CESA) permits.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement the LSA program and review projects under CEQA and CESA permits
  • Work with the Unit Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory) to develop and implement conservation plans
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure compliance with environmental regulations
  • Conduct fieldwork, including hiking and driving, to monitor and assess environmental impacts
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local communities and stakeholders
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in environmental science, biology, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in environmental conservation and management
  • Strong knowledge of California environmental laws and regulations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Working Conditions:

This position requires frequent travel to project sites, including hiking and driving in rugged terrain. You must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and be able to adapt to changing priorities.

This position is based out of the CDFW Regional office in Ontario, CA, and requires occasional overnight travel. You must have a valid Class C driver's license and be able to operate a car, all-terrain vehicle, or 4WD vehicle.

This is a 12-month Limited Term (LT) position, with the possibility of extension up to 18 months or becoming permanent. If you have permanent status in your current position, you have mandatory reinstatement rights into your former position at the end of this LT appointment.
