Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Environmental Scientist to join our team at the Department of Parks & Recreation. As a key member of our Resources Program, you will play a critical role in coordinating legislatively mandated resource management plans and ensuring compliance with regulations such as the 2020 Soil Standard and Wildlife Habitat Protection Plans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and implementation of resource management plans and strategies to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, consultants, and other agencies to coordinate resource management efforts and ensure effective communication.
  • Serve as a technical expert on district natural resources, providing guidance and support to other staff members and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external partners, including other government agencies, non-profit organizations, and private sector entities.
  • Stay up-to-date with changing regulations and policies, ensuring that our programs and activities are compliant and effective.
Requirements
  • Valid California Driver's License (CDL) required.
  • Background Investigation clearance required prior to appointment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and creatively.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a variety of settings, including office and field environments. Field work may involve working outdoors in various types of weather or in unpleasant conditions. The position may also require occasional travel throughout the district or state, with overnight stays at hotels and/or spike camps.
