Job Title: PRN Direct Support Professional for Adults with Developmental DisabilitiesJob Summary:

Join our team as a PRN Direct Support Professional and make a difference in the lives of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. As a Direct Support Professional, you will provide support and supervision to residents in a home environment, enabling them to participate in community activities, social interactions, and develop life skills.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide support and supervision to residents in a home environment, enabling them to participate in community activities, social interactions, and develop life skills.
  • Provide treatment interventions to ensure residents acquire skills necessary to compensate for or remediate functional problems.
  • Supervise and oversee residents' daily activities and personal care, assisting and supervising as needed.
  • Provide Christian role model and spiritual guidance, creating a positive and supportive environment.
  • Prepare and provide well-balanced meals, adhering to agency menus and daily nutritional requirements.
  • Establish structure in the home to enable residents to learn responsibilities and become functioning members of the home.
  • Maintain a safe home environment, instructing residents in safety, fire prevention, fire drills, and evacuation plans.
  • Plan events for residents, including informal social time, special events, and group activities, maintaining the required weekly amount of 14 hours.
  • Comply with safety standards, including OSHA, food program, sanitation, building code, accreditation standards, and N.C. licensing requirements.
  • Provide transportation for residents to events, including school, work, church, and medical appointments.
  • Purchase food, supplies, and equipment to meet residents' needs, following the schedule maintained in the group home and upon approval by the QP.
  • Greet visitors in a positive and hospitable manner.
  • Provide attention to residents' medical and dental health needs, following policies and procedures and directed by the QP.
  • Maintain agency vehicle in good operating condition, ensuring regular maintenance service and reporting any repairs needed to the QP.
  • Teach weekly life skills curriculum to residents, allowing for group participation and learning.
Requirements:
  • Must have the capability to manage, plan, organize, implement, monitor, and maintain agency programs, adhering to accreditation standards and N.C. licensing requirements.
  • Must be at least 23 years of age.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent, with advanced education preferred.
  • Must be able to read, write, and follow directions.
  • Must have no substantiated findings of abuse or neglect listed on the North Carolina Health Care Personnel Registry.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities required by the individuals served and demonstrate core skills, including technical knowledge, cultural awareness, analytical skills, decision-making, interpersonal skills, communication skills, and clinical skills.
  • Meets qualifications of paraprofessional as outlined by the NC Department of Health and Human Services.
  • Education, experience, skills, and abilities compatible with the responsibilities outlined in this job description.
  • A Christian spirit and lifestyle evident in daily actions.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
Working Conditions:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee would encounter in any home environment while performing the essential functions of this job. Duties required are performed in a group home setting, and the Innovations Support Professional may be asked to stay overnight on the premises of Baptist Children's Homes of NC, Inc. if working also as a relief part-time caregiver.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, write, and complete necessary documentation. Maintain the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, parents, teachers, counselors, and team members and others within the scope of residential care.

Contact with Others:

Regular contact with colleagues in all departments, as well as with outside individuals and groups; should represent Baptist Children's Homes of NC, Inc. in a positive manner. Contacts outside of the agency where proper handling of situations is of utmost importance as the agency's image could be affected.

Mental/Vision/Auditory Demands:

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form and ability to draw conclusions.

Confidential Data:

Complies with agency policies and procedures concerning confidentiality and HIPPA regulations involving all aspects of client information, which include day-to-day care of the residents, case records, family information, medical information, psychological services, etc., which if disclosed, would have adverse internal and/or external effect, and could result in termination of employment.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Innovations Support Professional and Direct Support Professional to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to drive and get in and out of a 12-passenger van unassisted, walk up and down stairs, sit, stand, reach, talk, and/or hear, and lift up to 15 lbs.
