SUMMARY:

The Automation Controls Specialist is responsible for planning and designing product applications while assembling project teams. This role entails organizing complex activities related to the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of engineering projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify and implement opportunities for enhancing equipment safety, output quality, and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot and program Mitsubishi PLCs.
  • Troubleshoot and program Keyence vision systems.
  • Troubleshoot and program Fanuc robotic systems.

  • Support the preventative maintenance strategy for plant equipment.
  • Engage in project teams and activities aimed at improving Plant Efficiency, Quality, Safety, and cost reductions.
  • Assist in forecasting requirements to create budgets within the Maintenance Department.
  • Continuously learn new skills and attend training programs to enhance knowledge of industry trends and best practices.
  • Report equipment status, countermeasure plans, and improvement strategies to the maintenance manager, preparing briefings for upper management.
  • Estimate production times, staffing needs, and related costs to inform management decisions. Successfully transition products from development to production.
  • Provide technical guidance, serve as a point of contact for designated areas of expertise, prepare briefings for senior management, and assist in problem resolution specific to the program/project.
  • Participate in project teams and all activities related to the development of new products.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

  • Two to three years of experience in maintenance, preferably in a manufacturing environment, with exposure to machine design and modification.
  • Ability to lead and manage projects from inception to completion, including medium to large-scale initiatives.
  • Knowledge or experience with both pneumatic and hydraulic transfer presses.
  • Proficiency in programming and troubleshooting PLCs, CNCs, and robots.
  • Familiarity with vision systems, robots, and other automation technologies.
  • Proficient in using AutoCAD or similar software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with manufacturing personnel, other departments, and management.
  • Strong computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

This position does not have any direct reports.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This role operates within a manufacturing environment. The position routinely utilizes standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. While performing some job duties, the employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibrations. The noise level in the work area can be loud.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. The individual must be able to walk moderate distances, climb a limited number of stairs, and communicate safely with operators. Regular requirements include talking or hearing, standing, walking, using hands to handle or feel, and reaching with hands and arms. Occasionally, the employee may need to sit, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

POSITION TYPE / EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

This is a full-time position, with hours of work from Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

TRAVEL:

This position requires less than 5% travel.

EDUCATION:

A degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering is preferred.
