Position Overview

The Central Civil Works Department is rapidly expanding in the Great Lakes and Mid-West region, and we are seeking a Senior Structural Engineering Specialist to lead the development of a robust structural team. This role is essential in driving projects related to flood risk management systems, including locks, dams, floodwalls, navigation floodgates, and stormwater pumping stations. Our department collaborates on a variety of projects across the nation and internationally, integrating expertise from various engineering disciplines to deliver sustainable and cost-effective solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Structural Design Leadership: Develop and oversee structural design processes, ensuring the preparation of analyses, plans, specifications, and technical reports. Utilize both standard and innovative methods to achieve optimal solutions for flood risk management projects.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with clients and AECOM teams to ensure alignment and stakeholder engagement in project solutions.
  • Quality Assurance: Review and supervise the work of team members, ensuring adherence to quality control standards for timely and accurate project outcomes.
  • Innovation: Actively seek opportunities to implement new methodologies and technologies in structural design.
  • Mentorship: Guide and support junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and educational environment.
  • Team Integration: Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary project team, including civil, geotechnical, and environmental engineers, to ensure comprehensive project execution.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with applicable design standards and regulations.
  • Participate in value engineering and alternatives analysis.
  • Conduct site assessments to evaluate ongoing construction activities.
  • Present project updates and proposals to clients as necessary.
  • Assist in business development efforts and proposal preparation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in structural engineering.
  • Professional Engineer license in at least one U.S. state, with the ability to obtain additional licenses through reciprocity.
  • Experience with federal projects, particularly with agencies such as USACE and FEMA.
  • Valid driver's license and U.S. citizenship or permanent residency.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering.
  • Extensive experience in flood risk management project design.
  • Familiarity with federal flood control design guidelines.
  • Proficiency in relevant engineering software, including SAP2000 and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
