Job Overview:

Position Summary:


The selected candidate will engage in collaborative project teams, delivering structural engineering and associated technical proficiency, focusing on dam infrastructures, hydropower installations, and flood management systems, including spillways, decant systems, overflow weirs, culverts, pump/lift stations, and various hydraulic structures.

Key responsibilities encompass design and evaluation, project oversight, preparation of technical documents and specifications, report generation, cost analysis, site assessments, dam safety evaluations, risk assessments, and limited construction monitoring.

The role may involve short-term travel assignments.

As market demands evolve, there may also be opportunities to participate in renewable energy projects, such as wind turbine foundation engineering, mining, and industrial processing facility initiatives.


Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in structural engineering or civil engineering with a structural focus (including structural analysis and design of steel and concrete)
10 years of relevant professional experience
Professional Engineer (PE) license
Proficiency in AutoCAD or Revit and structural engineering analysis tools such as RISA 3D, STAAD Pro, or MathCAD.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with project teams and clients
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
Attention to detail, precision, and thoroughness
Interest in guiding and mentoring junior engineers
Willingness to travel and adapt personal schedules to align with project requirements
Possession of a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record
Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without the need for sponsorship from Barr Engineering, now or in the future

Desirable Qualifications:
15+ years of relevant professional experience
Master's degree in civil or structural engineering
Experience in the consulting sector
Experience conducting dam safety assessments, audits, and inspections, along with structural stability evaluations for hydraulic structures
Familiarity with hydrotechnical, mechanical, and electrical components of hydropower operations
Understanding of hydraulic design principles for dam-related structures
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. This position is based out of Barr's Minneapolis, Minnesota, or Denver, Colorado, office.

Compensation Information:
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $95,000-120,000/year. Compensation will vary based on experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus.
