Position Overview

The Central Civil Works Department is rapidly expanding in the Great Lakes and Mid-West regions, and we are seeking a Senior Structural Engineering Discipline Lead to cultivate a robust structural team. We aim to assemble a diverse group of engineers specializing in flood risk management systems, locks and dams, floodwalls, navigation floodgates, stormwater pumping stations, outfalls, spillways, and ecosystem restoration. Our department collaborates on projects nationally and internationally, integrating the expertise of project managers, civil engineers, hydrology and hydraulics engineers, geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, and environmental specialists to deliver sustainable and cost-effective solutions. This role offers a hybrid work arrangement.

Our clientele includes a variety of private, local, national, and global organizations, particularly water utilities and drainage authorities across the United States. The role primarily involves working on federal projects for agencies such as USACE, USIBWC, FEMA, and NRCS.

Key Responsibilities

  • Structural Design Leadership: Lead the conceptualization of structural designs and oversee the development of structural analyses, plans, specifications, cost estimates, technical reports, and other project documentation, employing standard techniques while innovating advanced solutions for flood risk management projects from inception through construction.
  • Collaboration: Work alongside clients and AECOM counterparts to ensure stakeholder alignment on solutions, contributing to AECOM's broader technical capabilities and innovative methodologies.
  • Quality Assurance: Supervise and review the work of team members, adhering to quality control protocols to guarantee timely and precise outcomes.
  • Innovation: Actively seek opportunities to innovate and test new methodologies through curiosity and forward-thinking.
  • Mentorship: Delegate tasks, guide and oversee the work of others, and serve as a technical mentor.
  • Team Integration: Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary project team, including civil, geotechnical, hydrology and hydraulics engineers, structural engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, surveyors, and consultants.

Additional Responsibilities Include:

  • Ensuring design compliance with applicable standards and regulations, providing the professional engineer's seal and signature.
  • Participating in alternatives analyses and value engineering.
  • Conducting constructability reviews.
  • Performing site visits to assess active construction conditions, site work, utilities, and erosion control measures.
  • Presenting project proposals to clients as required.
  • Providing expertise on hours and assumptions for cost proposals and determining staffing needs for defined scopes and schedules.
  • Assisting with proposals and business development as necessary.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field.
  • 8 years of relevant experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Professional Engineer license in one state in the US, with the ability to obtain licenses in other states through reciprocity.
  • Experience with federal projects for agencies such as USACE, USIBWC, FEMA, and NRCS.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Must be a US citizen or permanent resident.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering.
  • Expertise in structural design and construction for flood risk management projects, including dams, locks, floodwalls, and stormwater pump stations.
  • Familiarity with federal flood control design guidelines.
  • Senior Level: Minimum of 15 years of experience as a Structural Engineer, with the last 10 years focused on flood risk management projects.
  • Principal Level: Minimum of 20 years of experience as a Structural Engineer, with the last 10 years focused on flood risk management projects.
  • Leadership experience in lock and dam system design projects within the last decade.
  • Proficiency in Bentley OpenRoads and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Flood Risk Management design and construction experience specifically for USACE.
  • Strong communication skills with colleagues, contractors, and clients.
  • Experience in alternative delivery projects.
  • Proficient in software such as SAP2000, Excel, CPGA, and GROUP management.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation will be determined based on location and individual qualifications, with an expected range of $150,000 to $220,000.
