Position Overview

The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office is in search of a proactive and strategic leader to fill the role of Sheriff's Captain.

Compensation Package

Starting salary up to $102.59/hour ($214,117/year) accompanied by a comprehensive total compensation package.*

Role Responsibilities

Under general supervision, the Sheriff's Captain is responsible for developing and executing policies related to law enforcement operations; overseeing, organizing, directing, and evaluating major functional programs and operations within the department; representing the Sheriff in various public forums; and assessing the performance of Sheriff's Lieutenants.

Minimum Requirements

Experience: A minimum of five years in law enforcement or corrections, including at least one year as a Sheriff's Lieutenant or Correctional Lieutenant.

Education: Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate from POST is required for some assignments. A degree in criminal justice or related fields is highly desirable.

License: Valid California driver's license with a clean driving record.

Citizenship: Permanent resident aliens must apply for citizenship prior to employment consideration.

Background Check: Candidates must pass a thorough background investigation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The candidate should have extensive knowledge of law enforcement principles, crime detection methods, and the operation of detention facilities. They should also possess the ability to analyze law enforcement issues, implement effective solutions, and maintain positive relationships with various stakeholders.
