We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team at East Tennessee Children's Hospital. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results, which are essential for providing high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities- Perform a variety of laboratory tests and procedures, including blood bank, coagulation, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and urinalysis.
- Follow established laboratory and hospital policies and procedures related to testing, specimen collections, quality control, result verifications, reporting procedures, infection control, maintenance, and lab and public safety.
- Perform daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed, maintenance on instruments and equipment as appropriate.
- Calibrate equipment as required.
- Document and report test results in a timely manner and according to established laboratory protocol and procedures.
- Investigate and document problems with unacceptable specimens.
- Follow established guidelines for resolving patient specimen problems.
- Follow established procedures for laboratory quality control and report discrepancies to the appropriate supervisor.
- Accurately analyze and evaluate QC results obtained before accepting and reporting patient test results.
- Record results obtained for quality control testing as defined in test procedure.
- Associate's degree from an accredited college offering a NCCLS-approved Medical Laboratory Technician program or completion of a clinical lab training program.
- Certification as an MLT by the ASCP, AMT, or AAB.
- 2 years of related laboratory experience preferred.
- Knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, equipment, and techniques of medical technology.
- Skill in both verbal and written communication.
- Ability to multitask, handle stress appropriately, and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work well with others and consistently display a courteous, professional attitude in all situations.
- Light lifting, pushing, and pulling is required for 10-20 lbs occasionally and frequent moving of objects of less than 10 lbs is required.
- Frequent sitting with some walking, standing, squatting, bending, and reaching is required.
- Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
