Job Summary

Summit Medical Group is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Technician to join their team. As a key member of the laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing phlebotomy, processing specimens, and ensuring the smooth operation of the laboratory.

Responsibilities
  • Perform phlebotomy for patients scheduled for laboratory tests in a timely and clinically appropriate manner.
  • Process specimens accurately and efficiently, adhering to established policies and procedures.
  • Deliver specimens to the technologist for testing as soon as possible, ensuring minimal delays.
  • Notify supervisors of any problems related to processing or specimen handling.
  • Answer telephone requests in a professional and timely manner.
  • Perform processing, ordering, and releasing of tests in the laboratory information system (LIS) with minimal errors.
  • Label specimens accurately and route them to the appropriate laboratory testing area.
  • Prepare specimens for outside reference laboratories, ensuring all necessary information is included.
  • Complete testing issues and handle them appropriately.
  • Scan in specimens and requisitions into the scanning systems.
  • Leave work areas clean and organized, promptly cleaning up specimen spills according to OSHA guidelines.
  • Interact with supervisors, co-workers, physicians, and the public in a cooperative and professional manner.
  • Adhere to all aspects of the corporate compliance program and maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Participate in site-level Quality Improvement Activities, contributing to the evaluation and improvement of site performance.
Qualifications

Education: High school diploma (or equivalent) required. Post-secondary studies in phlebotomy or clinical assisting program preferred.

Experience: One year of medical office/clinical experience with phlebotomy preferred.
