Position Overview: The City of Waukesha Board of Police and Fire Commissioners is inviting applications for the role of entry-level Emergency Response Specialist. Applicants should demonstrate exemplary moral character and a strong commitment to integrity and honesty.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license
  • State of Wisconsin Firefighter I Certification (Firefighter II preferred)
  • State of Wisconsin Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) License (Paramedic preferred)
Note: Candidates holding Firefighter II certification from IFSAC/Pro-Board or Paramedic certification from the National Registry are encouraged to apply, even if not currently certified in Wisconsin. Employment offers will depend on obtaining the necessary Wisconsin certifications.

Additional Requirements: Candidates with Wisconsin State certified Firefighter I and EMT qualifications will be required to achieve Firefighter II certification and/or Paramedic licensure within 18 months of employment.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Respond to emergencies as part of a firefighting or EMS team, executing various fire ground tasks as required.
  2. Conduct preventative maintenance and inspections on all firefighting apparatus and equipment.
  3. Provide basic or advanced emergency medical care as a member of a medical response team.
  4. Document incidents and maintain records under the guidance of a Company Officer.
  5. Engage in regular training sessions and educational lectures.
  6. Assume duties as an Equipment Operator or Fire Lieutenant when qualified.
  7. Fulfill responsibilities as a licensed Paramedic according to departmental standards when qualified.
  8. Maintain cleanliness of the station and care for all fire department property.
  9. Conduct community outreach through demonstrations and educational presentations on fire safety and emergency preparedness.
  10. Perform fire inspections and develop pre-emergency plans as assigned.
  11. Safely operate emergency vehicles under various conditions.
  12. Be available for duty during major emergencies and disasters.
  13. Complete other related tasks as assigned.
