The Technology Specialist Engineer position at Generac is crucial for identifying and evaluating emerging technologies that align with the company's strategic product objectives. This role is essential in shaping a technology portfolio that supports Generac's long-term vision, focusing on critical areas such as energy storage, power generation, carbon footprint reduction, and grid-edge technologies. Reporting to the Director of Engineering within the Advanced Commercial Technology division, this position is key to fostering innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and sustain a technology portfolio for prospective product applications
  • Create a comprehensive database for assessing relevant technologies
  • Integrate cost analysis into technology frameworks
  • Employ tools such as MATLAB/Simulink for system optimization
  • Design electrical and mechanical models for simulation purposes
  • Review intellectual property associated with technologies
  • Establish and nurture relationships with significant external partners
  • Guide and mentor junior team members

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
  • A minimum of 6 years of pertinent engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD in Engineering
  • At least 2 years of experience with power generation technologies
  • Comprehensive understanding of multi-disciplinary engineering
  • Experience in producing technology analysis reports
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools

Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink for physical modeling
  • Strong foundation in physics and engineering principles
  • Ability to tackle complex engineering challenges
  • Effective decision-making capabilities
  • Excellent communication skills

Physical Demands: This role may require standing, walking, and occasional lifting. It also involves extended periods of computer-based work and occasional travel.
