About the Job

The City of San Jose, CA is seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Worker II to join our team in the BeautifySJ program. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in maintaining the beauty and cleanliness of our city's public spaces.

Job Summary

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented individual to work in a fast-paced environment, providing lead direction to small crews engaged in the abatement and response to illegal dumping complaints throughout the city. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse communities and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide lead direction to small crews engaged in the abatement and response to illegal dumping complaints
  • Work with neighborhood leaders to support beautification efforts in their communities
  • Assist in the planning and execution of blight reduction and beautification projects through BeautifySJ
  • Operate program equipment, including dump trucks and compactor vehicles
  • Perform manual labor, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials and objects averaging a weight of 50 pounds or heavier
Requirements
  • Completion of high school or equivalent
  • Three years of experience in the maintenance, repair of streets, sewers, parks or public facilities, or related field
  • Possession of a valid driver's license authorizing operation of a motor vehicle in the State of California
  • Ability to work a five-day per week schedule, with flexibility to work alternate shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime

  • Experience working with disadvantaged or marginalized populations
  • Ability to relate to individuals of all socioeconomic levels and multi-cultural communities
  • Ability to work with intended communities to ensure safe, healthy environments
