About the Job

The City of San Jose, CA is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Maintenance Worker to join our team in the Parks and Recreation department. As a Senior Maintenance Worker, you will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of parks, landscaping, and public facilities, as well as supervising a team of maintenance workers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and Direct Maintenance Teams: Oversee the work of maintenance teams, including planning, scheduling, and assigning tasks, as well as evaluating team performance and providing guidance and training as needed.
  • Maintenance and Repair of Parks and Facilities: Perform routine maintenance and repairs on parks, landscaping, and public facilities, including equipment maintenance, repairs, and replacements.
  • Inventory and Supply Management: Manage inventory and supplies, including ordering and tracking materials, and ensuring that equipment and tools are properly maintained and stored.
  • Safety and Risk Management: Ensure that all maintenance work is performed in a safe and efficient manner, and that all necessary safety protocols are followed.
  • Communication and Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service to the public, including responding to inquiries and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience: Four years of experience in maintenance and repair of streets, sewers, parks, street landscaping, or public facilities, including at least one year of experience providing lead direction to a crew engaged in semi-skilled and skilled maintenance and repair of parks, facilities and infrastructure, groundskeeping; or landscaping.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Valid State of California Class A or B driver's license with applicable endorsements required.

  • Job Expertise: Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with applicable professional/technical principles and practices, Citywide and departmental procedures/policies, and federal and state rules and regulations.
  • Communication Skills: Effectively conveys information and expresses thoughts and facts clearly, orally and in writing; demonstrates effective use of listening skills and displays openness to other people's ideas and thoughts.
  • Computer Skills: Experienced with common business computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Teamwork and Interpersonal Skills: Develops effective relationships with co-workers and supervisors by helping others accomplish tasks and using collaboration and conflict resolution skills.
