We are seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Worker II to join our team at the City of San Jose, CA. As a key member of our Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services Department, you will play a vital role in maintaining the beauty and functionality of our city's public spaces.

Job Summary

The Maintenance Worker II will provide lead direction to small crews engaged in the abatement and response to illegal dumping complaints throughout the City. You will also support all BeautifySJ programs, including the Encampment Trash Program. This position requires a strong ability to work with diverse communities, including the unhoused population, and to provide exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities
  • Work with neighborhood leaders to support beautification efforts in their communities.
  • Assist in the response and abatement of reported and non-reported illegally dumped materials within public rights-of-way.
  • Provide lead direction to small crews and participate in large crews engaged in maintenance and repair activities.
  • Operate program equipment, including dump trucks and compactor vehicles.
Requirements
  • Completion of high school or equivalent.
  • Three years of experience in maintenance, repair, or related field.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license authorizing operation of a motor vehicle in the State of California.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with disadvantaged or marginalized populations.
  • Ability to relate to individuals of all socioeconomic levels and multi-cultural communities.
  • Ability to work with intended communities to ensure safe, healthy environments.
