Job Summary

The University Police Officer is a multi-skilled professional responsible for enforcing laws, regulations, and university policies. This role requires a strong commitment to public safety, community policing, and emergency response. The successful candidate will serve as a role model, promoting a culture of respect, inclusivity, and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enforce laws, regulations, and university policies to maintain a safe and secure environment.
  • Provide emergency response services, including medical assistance, fire suppression, and hazardous materials response.
  • Conduct investigations into crimes, accidents, and other incidents, gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.
  • Collaborate with campus departments, local law enforcement, and emergency services to ensure a coordinated response to emergencies.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with the campus community, fostering a culture of trust and cooperation.
  • Participate in training and professional development to stay current with best practices and emerging trends in law enforcement and emergency services.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Valid Massachusetts driver's license and ability to operate a police vehicle.
  • Successful completion of a police academy training program and certification as a police officer in the State of Massachusetts.
  • Ability to work a varied schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment and supplies, as needed.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in a variety of settings, including outdoor environments, emergency situations, and office settings.
  • Exposure to hazardous materials, loud noises, and stressful situations is possible.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment, including a uniform, badge, and other gear, as required.

Salary and Benefits

  • Grade 16 salary range.
