JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Security Support Specialist - Ritenour High School

REPORTS TO: Principal

SUMMARY: Responsible for executing various safety and security tasks, which include managing traffic and public access to different campus and administrative locations, as well as inspecting campus facilities for unsafe or hazardous conditions.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
  • Conducts security duties, maintaining visible security posts in an alert manner; verifying identification of visitors and school staff as necessary for safety and security.
  • Conducts regular inspections of buildings and grounds to ensure safety and security standards are met.
  • Welcomes all individuals entering the assigned campus, confirming their identity and purpose.
  • Assists the building principal or designated personnel in safety and security matters, primarily outside of buildings.
  • As an authorized security officer, enforces school regulations and local laws while on District property; collaborates closely with local law enforcement regarding crime and delinquency issues.
  • Provides traffic management, enforcing traffic and parking regulations on school grounds.
  • Monitors school bus arrivals and departures, as well as student activities in hallways and cafeterias.
  • Documents all incidents and accidents as required.
  • Performs all security-related duties diligently and safely.
  • Takes necessary precautions to safeguard students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Exhibits a respectful, cooperative, and caring demeanor towards students and adults within the school community.
  • Offers support during crisis situations involving identified students (CPI Trained).
  • Unlocks and opens building doors for special events and oversees school functions as assigned.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Regular attendance is essential to provide support to students and staff.
  • Requires travel within the school campus.
  • Prepares and maintains written reports.
  • Communicates concerns in writing with relevant parties.
  • Discusses student situations with teachers, administrators, and parents.
  • Communicates with staff and parents via telephone.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

- Requires exertion of 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
- Requires exertion of 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or
- Requires exertion of up to 10 pounds constantly

- Regular mobility throughout the school building and campus, including classrooms, hallways, large spaces, stairwells, and outdoor areas

- Normal attention with clarity of vision at 20 feet or more and a field of vision that can be seen up and down or right to left while focused on a point is required.

- May be required to physically apprehend or restrain an individual

- Subject to both indoor and outdoor working conditions, with exposure to noise that may necessitate shouting at times.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Vocational Preparation: (Experience)

- Experience working with high school students is preferred

- Basic knowledge of arithmetic, spelling, English, and grammar is necessary.

- Accuracy in checking, posting information, and writing reports is required.

Education Preparation: (Formal and Informal)

- Equivalent to graduation from a general or technical high school.

License(s)/Certification(s) Required: St. Louis County Security Officer's License (requires successful completion of training program). Missouri Driver's License.
