Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Security Officer to provide personal, equipment, and real property security for faculty, staff, students, and visitors within our school campus. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing escort services, basic public assistance, and performing routine security and public safety patrol duties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol assigned areas on foot, in assigned utility vehicles, or other specialized vehicles to ensure personal, building, and equipment security.
  • Examine doors, windows, and gates to ensure security, using school keys to open and close buildings, and monitoring closed buildings for unauthorized persons and/or suspicious activities.
  • Inform and warn violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles.
  • Provide escort services for visitors and offer other public assistance, such as lockout services, jump starts, and routine information.
  • Watch for and report irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards, and emergency situations, contacting emergency responders as required.
  • Remain alert for the presence of unauthorized persons and/or security code violators, approaching suspicious persons and/or notifying police as appropriate, and may confront and/or detain violators until police arrive.
  • Patrol and monitor parking areas, athletic fields, and other outdoor spaces to provide public security and assistance.
  • Prepare routine standardized reports.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One year of directly related experience, which may include directly related certification or practicum training, preferred.
  • Ability to successfully conduct security patrols without direct supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to complete routine paperwork.
  • Ability to safely operate a utility vehicle.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and enforce safety codes, regulations, and procedures.
  • Skill in providing protection services to individuals on campus.
  • Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel.
  • Ability to operate two-way communication devices.
  • Proficiency in the use of computer software for word-processing, spreadsheet, and email.
Additional Requirements
  • A criminal history and background check is required and must be successfully completed.
  • Have or obtain Metropolitan Security License.
  • Moderate physical activity; requires handling of average-weight objects and standing or walking for extended periods of time and responding quickly when asked for assistance or responding to an incident.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Must be able to work outdoors throughout the year for extended periods of time.
  • Occasional overtime is required.
  • Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the School's discretion.
