Position Overview

Role Purpose and Responsibilities: This role is pivotal in ensuring the safety and security of the campus environment, encompassing employees, students, visitors, and physical assets. The position entails managing risks, preventing losses, and maintaining a campus free from criminal activities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee campus security and safety during the 3rd shift, monitoring surveillance systems and alarms, ensuring all equipment is operational.
  • Act as the primary emergency responder during the 3rd shift, responsible for initiating emergency notifications or contacting the appropriate personnel when necessary.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of campus safety policies and procedures, proactively identifying and addressing safety and security concerns.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for first aid at the St. Louis location during the 3rd shift.
  • Manage 3rd shift parking permits, campus keys, and related systems, addressing traffic and parking issues as they arise.
  • Lead the 3rd shift security officer team, ensuring adequate coverage across all shifts, and assist in the hiring, training, and supervision of security personnel.
  • Promote excellent customer service among the 3rd shift security staff, providing assistance and information to employees, students, and visitors.
  • Review and follow up on security incidents, assessing actions taken and providing coaching for future improvements.
  • Perform administrative tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the department.
  • Maintain a visible presence during the 3rd shift.
  • Act as the liaison with local law enforcement.
  • Process key requests during the 3rd shift.
  • Possess a valid firearm license.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge/Education

Required: Associate degree in public safety, criminal justice, homeland security, emergency management, fire service, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Understanding of effective management practices, including the recruitment, training, and motivation of security personnel.
  • Strong customer service and communication abilities.
  • Capacity to exercise sound judgment and decision-making skills, particularly in emergencies.
  • Adept at enforcing policies that ensure campus safety and security.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must successfully pass a comprehensive background check.
  • Proficient in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Office.
Preferred: Bachelor's degree and familiarity with effective campus security protocols. Eligible to carry firearms.

Experience

Required: Background in Public Safety with supervisory experience.

Preferred: At least three years of experience in Public Safety and/or campus security, or equivalent experience.
