Position Overview:


Under general oversight, this role is responsible for maintaining the safety and security of students, patients, visitors, and staff. The incumbent will implement crime prevention strategies and safety measures, enforce university policies, and possess the authority to make arrests as a member of the armed Public Safety Department.

This position offers the chance to enhance public safety within the diverse community of Saint Louis University, utilizing advanced technology such as computer-aided reporting systems, card access control, and sophisticated video surveillance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct patrols of designated areas, offering assistance and guidance to visitors, students, and staff.
  • Investigate and report suspicious activities on university property, coordinating with local law enforcement as necessary.
  • Continuously monitor and address safety hazards on campus, providing recommendations for preventive measures.
  • Document and investigate criminal incidents involving the university community, taking appropriate action against offenders.
  • Respond to fire and security alarms, providing initial emergency response until professional assistance arrives.
  • Support public safety agencies during their operations on campus and ensure the safety of distinguished guests.
  • Deliver initial medical assistance in emergencies until professional medical personnel arrive.
  • Participate in major events requiring crowd management or specialized tactical support.
  • Investigate vehicular incidents on campus and enforce traffic regulations.
  • Provide mentorship and training to junior officers.

Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Associate degree in business, security, safety administration, or criminal justice, with a minimum of one year of experience in a role requiring strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must possess and maintain an armed private security officer license as per local regulations.
  • Successful completion of psychological and drug screenings is required upon hiring and throughout employment.
  • A valid Missouri/Illinois chauffeur's license and a clean driving record are necessary.

Work Schedule:
This position requires a commitment of 40 hours per week.
