Role Summary
Under the supervision of the Director of Public Safety, the part-time Security Operations Officer will serve as an essential resource to provide coverage during scheduled and unscheduled staffing needs. This role involves delivering exceptional service through active monitoring and patrol of university properties, enforcing applicable laws, university regulations, and parking rules. The officer will respond promptly to emergencies and service requests, ensuring a safe environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Responsibilities include:
- Conducting thorough written and digital reports that capture detailed and accurate information.
- Performing daily evaluations of campus security and safety, identifying potential risks to the community.
- Maintaining a minimum commitment of one shift per month.
Qualifications
Essential Skills and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED is mandatory; an associate's degree in criminal justice or a related field is preferred.
- Prior experience in armed public safety, law enforcement, military, or security is highly desirable.
- Ability to secure and uphold an armed St. Louis Metro Security License, which includes a clear background check and successful completion of physical and psychological assessments.
- Certification in Adult CPR with First Aid and AED is required within 90 days of employment if not already held.
- Familiarity with FEMA emergency protocols, with completion of FEMA Courses IS100 and IS200 expected within 30 days of hire. Additional FEMA courses or public safety certifications are advantageous.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information effectively to diverse groups.
- Proficient conflict resolution skills, including the capability to de-escalate tense situations verbally.
- Commitment to diversity and inclusion, demonstrating respect for individuals from various backgrounds.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team while also working independently towards departmental objectives.
- Willingness to adapt to flexible scheduling and fill shifts on short notice.
