Position Overview

AECOM is seeking a highly skilled Hydraulic Engineering Specialist to join our Transportation Business Line. This role will be based in our Philadelphia or Conshohocken, PA office. You will collaborate closely with our team and clients to manage waterway permitting, develop erosion and sediment control plans, design stormwater management systems, and conduct hydrologic and hydraulic analyses. Familiarity with various Pennsylvania agencies is highly preferred.

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Leading the preparation and review of comprehensive design documents, including calculations, reports, models, permit applications, and construction drawings.
  • Providing technical guidance to project teams, conducting quality reviews of deliverables, and supporting the professional growth of junior engineers.
  • Coordinating design elements across disciplines with other project leaders.
  • Utilizing advanced modeling software for effective design and collaboration.
  • Strengthening client relationships related to our water resource services.
  • Potentially assisting with staffing and business development initiatives.
  • Mentoring engineers and designers within the team, both locally and across the Greater Pennsylvania area.

The Greater Pennsylvania Water Resources group at AECOM comprises approximately 25 diverse and motivated professionals, including engineers, designers, and managers, with varying levels of experience. Our team works collaboratively to deliver high-quality projects to our clients while fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.

Examples of projects you may engage with include:

Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project

  • Designed street enhancements to support Bus Rapid Transit service connecting major employment hubs in Western PA, addressing drainage and stormwater management in a highly urbanized area.

I-70 Yukon and Madison Interchanges

  • Oversaw the complete reconstruction of 3.5 miles of I-70, including the design of drainage systems and stormwater management for improved traffic flow.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering and six years of relevant experience in water resource engineering, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Proficiency in water resources design software (e.g., Microstation In-Roads, StormCAD, HEC-RAS).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Eight years of experience in the field.
  • Familiarity with Pennsylvania Department of Transportation districts and related agencies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
