Salary range for this position is $87,900-$124,529; Actual pay is based on years of licensure.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Clinical Informatics Nurse Specialist is tasked with the development of clinical information solutions specifically tailored to nursing applications, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and high-quality patient care.

This role also spearheads information technology innovations, deployment, and optimization efforts aligned with the organization's clinical performance improvement goals.

Provides clinical subject matter expertise to convert data into actionable information and knowledge in daily nursing and clinical practice.

Collaborates with Information Technology leadership and staff to translate clinician requirements into specifications for clinical information systems, identify and prioritize system enhancements, and redesign workflows in clinical settings.

In support of department leadership, investigates and recommends new applications and solutions for strategic and tactical clinical needs.

Advises and manages initiatives to enhance the acceptance and utilization of clinical applications and to promote the use of information technology in direct patient care.

Acts as a vital liaison to nursing executives and the clinical user community by providing guidance and education on clinical information initiatives.


PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Accountable for facilitating the design of clinical information solutions, including nursing applications, to ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and high-quality patient care.
  • Leads a series of information technology project efforts aligned with the organization's clinical performance improvement objectives.
  • Collaborates with Information Technology leadership and staff to translate clinician requirements into specifications for new clinical systems and to evaluate and implement system enhancements or workflow redesign in all clinical areas.
  • Functions as a clinical subject matter expert to effectively convert data into information and apply knowledge in clinical practice.
  • Provides thought leadership and facilitates the integration of nursing science, computer science, and information science to manage and communicate data, information, and knowledge in clinical practice.
  • Offers general direction for clinical information systems installation and upgrade projects.
  • In partnership with the Director of Informatics, investigates and recommends new applications and solutions for clinical needs.
  • Advises and manages initiatives to enhance the acceptance and utilization of clinical applications and to promote the use of information technology in direct patient care.

  • Aims to foster a culture of evidence-based practice through the application of information technology to support effective clinical decision-making. Ensures that clinical documentation systems support clinical care and practice.
  • In collaboration with provider, nursing, and pharmaceutical experts, coordinates the development, implementation, and evaluation of nursing, provider, and ancillary services documentation tools, structured documentation, clinician order entry processes, reporting templates, clinical decision support, and online care management.
  • Serves as a key liaison to nursing executives and the clinical user community by providing guidance and education on clinical information initiatives.

Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education required is BSN

Experience:
Three years of progressively responsible clinical nursing work experience

Licensure/Certifications – Registered Nurse, licensed to practice in the State of Illinois


Epic certifications are required for the role and must be obtained within a specified timeframe from the date of hire and limited to a set number of test attempts per certification.


Other skills or knowledge:
Clinical Information Systems. Demonstrated ability to be self-directed with excellent organizational, analytical, writing, and interpersonal skills. Ability to learn new technology quickly, respond promptly to urgent issues, and adapt to a changing environment. Demonstrated competence in presentations and other public speaking skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills necessary to communicate effectively with users. Strong customer service skills. Ability to facilitate process design activities across departmental boundaries.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education - MSN in Nursing Informatics

Experience:
Five years in a clinical setting and with information services or working with computer services. Experience with information system implementation and support, preferably in the healthcare industry.

Other skills or knowledge - Proficient in Microsoft suite of products and related software.
