Position Summary: We are seeking an experienced Opto-Mechanical Engineer to contribute to the development of our next-generation LIDAR sensors. The successful candidate will possess a strong background in designing and analyzing opto-mechanical systems, coupled with practical experience in testing optical hardware. Given the diverse applications of LIDAR technology, our goal is to create products that excel in various thermal and vibration conditions. This role requires rigorous design, analysis, and testing to ensure our sensors meet these challenges.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design opto-mechanical systems from initial concept through to production for next-generation products.
  • Conduct opto-mechanical simulations to assess system performance across a range of thermal and vibration environments.
  • Validate hardware through comprehensive testing, including the development of test plans and equipment.
  • Create detailed optical and opto-mechanical component drawings adhering to GD&T standards.
  • Perform tolerancing of optical and opto-mechanical components, understanding fabrication tolerances.
  • Collaborate with vendors to ensure high-precision fabrication and verification of optical components.
  • Partner with the quality assurance team to ensure compliance with stringent automotive and industrial standards.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Solid foundation in opto-mechanical principles, with experience in athermal design preferred.
  • Proficiency in Solidworks or similar CAD software.
  • Experience with Zemax or equivalent optical simulation tools.
  • Skilled in tolerancing and creating mechanical drawings.
  • Knowledge of bond joint design and adhesive testing.
  • Experience with optical hardware design.
  • Ability to manage relationships with optical component vendors and design consultants.
  • Master's degree preferred in optical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with LIDAR systems.
  • Background in designing optical systems for mass production.
  • Familiarity with FEA software such as ANSYS or similar.
  • Proficient in high-level programming languages (Python, Matlab) for simulation and data analysis.
  • Experience with Structural, Thermal, Optical Performance (STOP) analysis.
  • Knowledge of optical alignment and metrology equipment.
  • Understanding of stress, thermal, shock & vibration testing and related reliability assessments.
  • Familiarity with GD&T standards and ISO 10110.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $120,000 - $180,000 annually, commensurate with skills, experience, and qualifications. This role may also include equity and benefits.
